ABA Gold (ABAG) is an elite selection of 64 players from the more than 1500 competitors in the American Basketball Association during the 2017-18 season. ABA Gold takes place in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The American Basketball Association (ABA) is a men’s professional basketball league. The league has grown to become the largest professional sports league in the world!
In 1999 Joe Newman and Richard P. Tinkham founded the league. It is the re-launch of the original ABA which merged with the NBA in 1976. Tinkham co-founded both the original ABA and the Indiana Pacers. Joe Newman was the CEO of Joe Newman Advertising, Inc. and Alliance Broadcasting Group, Inc.
The ABA was established in 1967 and merged with the National Basketball Association in 1976 [New Jersey Nets, San Antonio Spurs, Indiana Pacers, Denver Nuggets]. Some of the ABA notable players where: Julius Irving (Dr. J) George Gervin (The Iceman), Ricky Barry, Moses Malone along with, many others that came to be NBA players.
The ABA was reformed in 2000 in partnership with the NBA and has been operating in harmony for the past 18 years.
The American Basketball Association (ABA) features over 100 teams and 1,500 players across the United States during its regular season from November to March.
This summer just 64 players have been selected to participate in the first season of the elite showcase series called ABA Gold.
New Fast Paced Game Format
In the First To 50 format, games are won by the first team to reach 50 points or above while leading by two. ABA Gold is adopting this innovative format introduced by the ABA in exhibition play two years ago. A contest is typically decided in under one hour with rules designed to keep the game moving quickly. First To 50 rules are very similar to the standard format game. It is the same 5 on 5 basketball we all love, but designed to be more of a race than the marathon of a 48 minute game.

ABA Gold CEO Harold Whaley has received a letter from the president of the International Naismith Foundation endorsing the presentation of Dr. James Naismith awards to ABA Gold players.
